A question for those brave souls printing on washi/kozo—how are you handling mounting the paper to a heavier substrate? As is often the case, a quick recce on YT left me more confused than before—my first thought, using starch paste of some sort and gluing to a heavy watercolor paper was recommended by some, but not others; while traditionalists seem to use a backing of still heavier rice paper (“masa”) that will be, I assume, attached to backing board before framing.

At any rate, any thoughts appreciated—and I would be interested in why you’re drawn to this particular aesthetic, and how that might change your presentation philosophy for the artwork as a whole.

With washi/kozo very thin papers I have used the modern dry-mounting system, with silicone foil. It worked well.

Float mount on an appropriate archival board if framing. No need for extra laminated substrates, they'll only kill the visual grammar that the thin paper gives & make trouble if they go wrong. Float mounts are easily reversed and aren't difficult to do.

Excellent, thanks for your replies—if y’all ever have a chance to post a picture or two, that would be great as well.
