Short dated Supera 1600 is on sale at B & H. $7.99 per roll of 35mm film. Once it is gone, it's gone forever. I've got a bunch of rolls on the way. Why, I do not know.

Because it's a wonderful film? I have 14 boxes siting in my refrigerator but they expire in August. I'd buy more but I think it's time to let it go... I'm going to start downsizing my gear once KEH comes by in the spring.

It's a beautiful film, with color and grain that makes wonderful photos. I'm buying it simply because it will be gone for good soon. I am making a trip into Chicago later in June and most of my free time will be at night. It should come in handy. I bought a few rolls of Delta 3200 as well. I have already started the downsizing of gear as well. I sold off my Nikon FM2n along with 6 prime lenses and am working my way down my Canon EOS gear. For some reason I'm finding it very hard to sell a nearly mint 85L II. I guess the new 85L f/1.4 lens has killed the demand for the f/1.2 version.

I used it a few times but decided to stay with 100 and 160 speed.

I'd love to see those shots. Superia 1600 has so much emotion in it, perfect for dark and smokey jazz.

It's fantastic for nature photos in the woods as well. It really brings out the colours of what you photograph.

Thanks RattyMouse. Indeed it was perfect for this use. And also it was very well balanced with the harsh contrasts found in those situations. Superia 1600 was mild in contrast so the prints turned out just fine. Superia 800 was way different, much higher contrast.

I don't think I have these photos scanned. A problem with Superia 1600 was the grain aliasing (when scanning). Prints made optically showed very reasonable grain, similar to Tri-X. Prints made digitally (through the Frontier system) had much, much more grain.

I also used the previous film, Fuji Super HG 1600. Superia 1600 was much better, grain was much lower.

Well I have about 15 or so rolls of it and I'll try some out in a natural area. Thanks for the suggestion.

It sure would have been awesome to try Superia 1600 in one of my 6 x 7 cameras. With f/3.5 being the fastest lens I have in medium format, an ISO1600 film would have come in nice and handy. A shame Fujifilm never made this film in 120 size.

Once the Superia 1600 is gone, please try out the Kodak Portra 800. I've shot it in 120 indoors lit by 3 500 lumen daylight balanced (5000K) bulbs at f/3.5 and 1/25 second and got very usable photos out of it. By my reckoning it's about 1 stop underexposed at that point. No, it doesn't have the Fuji color palette, it's the Kodak color palette, but I rather like it. It can definitely handle the 1 stop underexposure it gets in this situation. And maybe I've just been lucky, but I've not had a problem with the backing paper on Portra 800 that has plagued some users of TMY2.
