Hi there, I've just bought an old Super Chromega D II Dichroic enlarger and I'm putting it together to check it operates and is complete, before cleaning it and getting going... I can't find a Negative Stage or housing for the negative carriers, is there a user here, that could take a photo of what it should look like.
There doesn't seem to be anything for the cut out lugs on the neg carriers to locate into and they seems to slop about at present even when the head is lowered.
Thanks I've already tried the manual for help, but it's explicit about what the difference between the negative stage and negative carrier are. I'll take some photos at the weekend most likely and post. I may have had an answer elsewhere that explains that what I've got is as good as it gets, but I'm still curious.
you are right about the Dichoric DII head, I'll check the model on the back and let you know that too.
Earlier Omega D-series enlargers had the four pins you mentioned, later models did away with that and use a centering octagonal ring on the base of the carrier to accomplish that same thing. I have a D5 and a lot of the older style carriers, what I will do in a pinch is take a 4x5 D5 carrier, place it in the enlarger and then put the D2 type carrier on top of it and square away the stack to center the D2 carrier on top of the D5 carrier. Glennview will also modify a D5 film stage to use the old style carriers by adding pins but I bet that will cost almost as much as an enlarger since it is custom machine shop time!
The enlarger is a D-5 XL and following a trial set up I've found that on the black (paper facing) side of the negative carriers there are chamfered corners to a projecting plate, these locate in a circular opening in the plate at the head of the bellows.
So it seems that I'm not missing anything.
The only thing I need now is to locate a 4x5 mixing chamber, so I may need to post a wanted or swap for the 2 x 2 3/4 box supplied, if the chap I bought it from doesn't have one hiding away.
