Dear All,
I would like to buy a Horseman 970/980/985/VH-R camera using my own Schneider Super Angulon 90/8, to be mounted on a drilled 80x80 lens board.
I read here https://jonathangazeley.com/2012/04/15/horseman-6x9-lenses/ that this lens is a good matching for the cameras above but I would want to be sure: will the lens don't hit the camera bed or the ground glass during the closing?

Thank you.

I've never used a Horseman VH, VH-R or the other 6x9 Horseman cameras, but the SA 90/8 is not a low profile lens like the regular Angulon 90/6.8, and I doubt it would fold up into a folding camera. It definitely won't fold up in my 4x5 Technika.

Ok, that's clear. Thank you.

FYI, the 90mm f/8 super Angulon is between 75 and 78mm long (depending on whether it's multi-coated), and takes a 67mm filter.

The regular Angulon 90mm f/6.8 is 25mm in overall length, and takes a 40mm filter. (From Schneider's archived data on the wayback).

Your source is mistaken, that lens is a poor match for that camera. The camera movements are designed for lenses with covering power only up to 160mm. It certainly won't close with that lens.

the 90mm 6.8 angulon was my go-to utra-light wide for 4x5. On 2x3 it would make a nice standard lens with a reasonable amount of movements. I have since upgraded to the 100 Wide Field Ektar, which is a beautiful, but still pretty light and compact 4x5 lens, and would give more than enough coverage for lots of movements on 6x9. My Galvin 2x3 is coming with an "astrogon" 90mm lens that is also tiny, but I can't find much info on it except it was probably made by Yamasaki. In addition there is a Nikkor M 105mm lens that is tiny, but that barely covers 6x9. I've never used it, but I'm sure its got great image quality.

The Super Angulons are great lenses, but they are bulky, and there are small ~90mm lenses that will almost certainly fold up into a VH or similar cameras. I don't know, but I suspect a 3.5 inch or 4 inch Dagor would also work well.

Thank you all. Yes, taking the length of Super-Angulon 90/8 and comparing with the Horseman depth it seems not suitable.

The Horseman 6x9 cameras are primarily designed to use Horseman/Topcor lenses, which are all very compact and most can be left on the camera when closed. The 90mm lens, for example, takes 40.5mm filter, which shows how much smaller it is than your Schneider SA. (In fact, the back of your SA may be big to fit through the Horseman’s very small lens opening.)
