I’m looking at some lens options for a project and am wondering about this 47 from Schneider. I don’t have one on hand so am hoping someone here with one can help.

I understand that many recommend a center filter with this lens. If someone has one, would you mind sharing a few comparison photos showing the effect of the center filter on and off? I’m just looking to understand the degree of vignetting, specifically in 6x6 and 6x7 formats for this project.

This question is specific to the Super-Angulon 47mm f5.6 MC, not any of the other versions. Thanks.

Francesco, all that matters is the lens' focal length and the circle covered. Make and model have very little to do with optical vignetting, cos^4 bites 'em all equally.

If you're going to use a 47 centered on 6x6 or 6x7, the corners will be down ~ 1.6 stops and ~1.9 stops from the center respectively. Not a huge problem with negative film but you might want a CF if shooting reversal. It depends on the subject and your preferences. If you're going to use decentering movements, well, then you're more likely to need a CF.

FWIW, I shot a 47/5.6 SA centered on 2.25" x 3.25" E6 for years without a CF.

The fall off is from the 1/cos4[angle of the center axis] as it gets off the axis. The larger the lens coverage is the less the fall over tend to be. So for a particular wide angle lens focal length, the design of the lens comes into play.

Thanks yall but I'm really just interested in a visual comparison here. The specifics of the lens matter in this case because this is for a custom build. Because of some particular design elements and sizes, this specific lens in a Copal 0 fits the parameters to possibly be used. In most other cases I wouldn't care about the make or model but in this case it's specific to this version of the Super Angulon, and each version is known to have its own vignette character and prevalence so thats why I'm trying to zone in on comparison pics from an example of the specific lens.

Schneider made different CND filters for the 47mm f5.6 which I assume is due to the difference in filter sizes.

The light fall-off will be the same, but the different filter sizes could be why they made different versions.
