Good Day,
I have posted details for the Sunrise and Sunset tours to be held at the APUG Conference. See the link below...

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Robert M. Teague (rotegue) will be the tour leader. There will be multiple attempts at this outing. With perfect luck they will all go through. Should the weather be bad we will cancel that outing and hope the next scheduled outing will be fine. Robert can not be asked to give all the tours so I am asking for some help here. We need volunteers to assist on this tour. If you are interested please contact me.

By the by, If you haven't signed-up you really are going to mis one hellava great time.

<Frank sobs bitterly into his beer...>

Short of a late UPS delivery of ruby slippers (which (I'm happy to admit) are a bit too camp for me anyway, actually!) I'm not going to make the conference for financial reasons.

But I really wish I was!

Workshops with Les, meeting everyone at the gatherings and now sunrise and sunset shoots with Robert...?! Oh, this is a bitter pill!

You and me both, Frank. While the conference is too close for me to afford not going, the added costs of the many fine workshops is just out of reach -- cheap though they are. As it is, I'm amazed how cost conscious the organizers have been in setting this up. These guys have done an unbelievable job all the way around.

Doing some research in regards to Toronto Island, if it is decided it will be a destination for the Sunrise portion of the tour, arrangements will have to be made 24 hours in advance with a water taxi service. The cost will be approximately $7.50 CDN per person, max capacity of the water taxis is 12 people and has to be booked 24 hours in advance. The Toronto Ferry service does not start until well after sunrise. (7:30 am)

Directions to the Sunrise Spot

Good morning,

Friday was a brilliant sunrise, today however...can't win them all (overcast skies). People have asked John and myself where the sunrise shoot location was. So for those who want to head out on their own, the location, Humber Bay East Park is easy to get to. If you are in the GTA and coming from the west ie Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington etc; take the QEW/Gardiner Expressway and get off at Parklawn and go South cross Lakeshore.
For those coming from Elevator, find your way to the Don Valley Expressway go south, take the Gardiner Expressway West and take the Lakeshore Exit, which is couple hundred feet west of the South Kingsway exit. Take the Lakeshore Exit, turn right (west) onto Lakeshore go past the condos to Parklawn, turn left then into the parking lot on the right.
Note the potholes are big so take care driving in, one nearly swallowed my VW Golf. Once you parked, take the path east until you get an unobstructed view of the Toronto Skyline. Sunrise is about 6:15 (as of May 6)so you want to be in the park at about 5:45 so you can set up in a leisurely pace. Robert, Travis and myself found some really nice shooting opportunities in the park after sunrise, you might want to pack a couple of different formats to take advantage of them. There are a lot of different bird species, which for a birder will be heaven. Travis Nunn can expand apon this.

I hope this information is kept for future reference on APUG, somewhere.

So THAT'S why you guys switched me around! LOL Anyway It was a blast at the St Lawrence market yesterday morning. At least it was inside, and for a city boy like me, it was neat watching them bring in the carcasses and chop'em up with chain saws. Now that's what you do at 5am....

Regards, Art.
