sunburn or sabatier or polarisation

anyone tryed this yourself ??

i found some old brom 4x5 papers in my drawers, exosed in broad daylight for a couple hours at smallest and then largest aperture.
pulling the paper out of holder, the result looks somewhat like Mccaws but no trace of heating
and disapears in the developer.
paper gets deep black and no trace of solarization.
leaving out developer, and fixing only, leaves a narrow path of the sun vissible, and nothing of interest apart from that.

hmmm -- what am i doing wrong ??

it might help you be able to develop and fix your prints
ive done ned's routine and it works OK
i make similar prints but instead of photographing the sun
i just make extremely long exposures .. these types of prints "retina prints"
are what the originalphotographs were ..

it is very informative and gave me a new wiew of the process.
i did a serie of 4x5" tests today in near clear sky with diff objectives from 65mm to 150 mm over 90 mm as well.
i found clear trace on both VC and brom paper, but no way near the beautifull pichtures in McCaws article..
hmmm- McCaw uses VERY large lensen.
in my stock i found a Leitz Epis 400mm f4.0. it is huge but no way near the U2 spy plane lens of McCaw.
mounted it on my wooden 8x10 camera. Under focussing i happened to put a finger on the sun on the mattgalss.
i burned the finger and started to worry about starting a fire.
during exposure the filmholder started to smell burned, but nothing furter happened.
after removing the brompaper a clear trace of of the sun burned all the way thru the paper.

i used the recipie from your link, i need to adjust the mixture, but it is definately better than my first trial.

if i get lucky, i will try to upload my result .

please to post back and let us know how you are doing !
i haven't photographed the sun and do worry that it would start a fire
i've just used regular subjects with the camera open for a long time
or contact prints in the sun ( with film and paper ) or film instead of paper,
in the camera for a long time ... its great to hear of others having similar ( but different ) fun
