Having recently re-discovered my love of 35mm photography, I am looking to find a decent scanner that doesn't cost a kidney. I've seen items on the market ranging from $200-$10,000. I want to spend as little as possible while still getting some quality out of it. I will probably shooting 50% color and 50% B&W. I don't need anything super speedy. Looking to hear about what people are using out there. How many people do their own scans, how many let a lab do it? In the long run, which option is most cost efficient. I don't shoot for money anymore so it will be for personal use only. Would like a scanner that can do high enough quality scans to print nice looking 8X10's or maybe 11X14s.

You are new so this time we will forgive you :D.

The subject of scanning is officially off topic here on APUG, but welcomed at our quieter sister site - DPUG.ORG. There is a link to it at the top of the page.

There is also a "Hybrid Photo" group in the group section.

EDIT: there is also a pending update to both sites which will make it easier to move between the two. In the meantime, you can always register atb DPUG using the same user name.
