I have a customer who has requested CDs containing samples of my images to be given to potential buyers in various departments. I want to have them organized somehow for a professional look. I would like to have thumbnails at a minimum and perhaps some way to organize them for easy viewing and navigation..... a professional presentation instead of just a bunch of separate images with no way to navigate through them. Can anyone recommend a program that would allow me to do this?

I would suggest an HTML gallery type setup. This would work on most operating systems.
You could have a thumbnails/index page, and have the images clickable to open a bigger version.
Such an interface is very versatile, and easy to create with a program such as Frontpage or Dreamweaver.

Another option would be to put the images into a PDF file, although to view this, your client would need Adobe Acrobat reader

Any of the web building programs (html editors) can do this for you. You just need to have an auto run added to start the disc when the viewer inserts it into a drive.

I have used MS Frontpage myself..but other programs should have the capability.

You can make a simple html gallery with IrfanView. Price: $0.

just be aware that some gallery software has software requirements for it to run. For example, jalbum may require java for some funtionality and java may or may not be enabled on the pc on which it is to run.
Simple viewer requires the flash player to run but apart from that it can be setup with no special software.

you may want to look at a cheap image asset management tool which allows you to organise images locally on your pc and export to html those images you want to publish to cd.

Imatch is one such tool.

Thanks, folks. I checked out all the products linked here very quickly and I will look at them closer later today. They look like they will do just what I need. I also appreciate the advice about needing other software in some cases. I want to keep this simple and not get bogged down in learning yet anohter complex program right now and the links you posted look great.

oops,

I may have misled you slightly. Jalbum requires java to create the web pages but it doesn't require it to view the finished web pages so if you have java installed on your machine it would work for you.

Thanks for the clarification. I am going to try all three of the free programs listed her tonight. They look great!

I have to add something else here. I talked to Terrance at WCI today and that conversation, combined with their fast responses to my other questions, tells me that WCI is one class-act outfit. I have never had a lab show so much concern for my needs before. If their prints are half as good as the way they treat customers, this is going to be a fun and productive relationship. If anyone here hasn't checked out their website, I suggest that they do and give them a try.
