suggest MF treat, after these 18 years post major med. diagnosis?

Eighteenth year anniversary of a life-threatening medical diagnosis (yep, that one), still around, still receiving therapy but maybe phasing that out soon.

Returning casual photographer, and new to MF (Yashica TLR) and liking it, I wonder what would be a MF camera treat.
Something not too fancy, or fragile, so I would not feel nervous about taking it about.

??

Since you like the Yashica TLR, consider replacing or supplementing it with a Rolleiflex TLR.

Look for a Yashica 635... It's a TLR that has the capability of also shooting 35mm film. Since you'll already be familiar with its operation, adding the ability to shoot 35mm in a MF camera will open up creative opportunities without A.) a lot of extra cost, and B.) a major technical learning curve.

Of course the Hasselblad. But since this is a very special celebration the Hasselblad 903 SWC.

Maybe you have a point, there.

A combination: Holga-like camera, plus some needed accessories for my Yashicas (A and C), like lens hoods, filters?

Gotta lurk on the forum Classifieds more often.

My C220 3-lens kit stays at home most of the time, unless I set out with a specific project. The suggestion of a RB-67 was probably a joke. For walkaround I enjoy my 6x6 Zeiss Nettar (Novar 3-element) or Voigtlander Perkeo (color-skopar 4-element).
You can celebrate without succumbing to GAS. Suggestions:
  • a monopod (remember, your sharpest lesn is...)
  • film
  • filters (assuming you shoot B&W) yellow, orange, yellow-green
  • a rolleinar; suggest you start with rolleinar 1; I believe Bayy fits Yashica TLR; this opens a new domain of photos.

Ah...close ups, or near-subjects, that would be awesome!
I just wonder what would really fit the Yashica - the C has a Bay 1(?) mount provision, I think.

A freshly CLA'ed Rolleicord (Rolleiflex if you want a heavier slightly fancier camera) and a nice light meter to match. A totally biased opinion about what is fun and sweet to walk around with.

Sorry I wrote "Bayy" meant Bay I.

Another improvement would be an upgrade of the ground glass. Dim GG was the reason I did not buy a Yashica-Mat when I has an opportunity at a nice price. But an upgrade is possible for a moderate price from Rick Oleson

Be aware that the Fresnel is on the upper surface and needs to be treated with care.

I woud suggest a Rolleinar (1 or 2) in Bay I as an addition to the Yashica TLR.

My Mum had that f***ing medical diagnosis, and consequently she's now partying with Ansel, Robert, Robert, and a few others (although I believe Johann Sebastian and Wolfgang Amadeus are probably more her thing.)
There's one this I learned from that story: enjoy the present. Life can be much shorter than expected - I think you know firsthand what I mean.
Enjoying life is not that much about objects but more about experiences. But if a specific object (say, a Hasselblad) makes the experience more enjoyable, by all means go for it. Now is the time.

Is there a camera you always dreamed about? Say, a Hasselblad, a Leica, a Plaubel Makina, a Rolleiflex, a Mamiya 7?

The next step from a TLR is usually an SLR-- I'd search for a decent Bronica SQ-A or -Ai. Typically, if the body hasn't been abused, the only thing to go wrong are some contacts inside the body-- and all they need is cleaning and adjusting. Mechanically, it's solid, the lenses aren't too expensive, and they're pretty good quality (with one or two exceptions). Does require a battery, though (unless you like shooting at 1/500th).

... I can second this. It's nigh indestructible, and with the graflok back, there's loads of options for film / format. I'm in the process of cleaning / adjusting one I bought up recently. It's a nifty little camera.

How about a medium format slide projector, and some of the new Ektachrome in 120?
You will need some slide mounts as well.
