I'm quite experiencing shortage of phenidone recently and I was wondering whether I could replace it with some metol? E.g. 10 times the quantity of phenidone.

Thanx in advance, Yani

Likely ID-68 is very similar to a few developers
which do use metol. Likely Ian or some other can
suggest a just like or nearly so substitute. Dan

You might as well make D-76 or Adox Borax MQ.

Make up Adox Borax MQ if you run out of Phenidone it's an excellent developer and slightly better than D76.

Adox Borax MQ

Metol 2 gm
Sodium Sulphite (anhydrous) 80 gm
Hydroquinone 4 gm
Borax 4 gm
Potassium Bromide 0.5 gm
Water to make 1.0 liter

This is similar to D-76 with slightly better sharpness, but development times must be increased by 10 - 20 %.

This developer formula was used for testing the DIN speed of films. It gives full film speed, excellent tonality and improved sharpness compared to D-76
