Stuck mirror due to mirror box edge fall-off

I'm sure this have been discussed before, but some things are worth repeating.

I've got a couple of SLRs where the mirror gets stuck in the UP position because the coverings on the sides of the mirror box are coming loose.

Here's an example.

The "rubber/plastic" covering on the sides of the mirror box loosen on the edges, and when the mirror flaps UP for the exposure there is no problem. But when the mirror tries to return to the bottom, it gets stuck on the loosened edges of the mirror box coverings.

Some of these might be easy to repair with a small dab of glue -- and pressing things into place.

But in areas behind the top, I am reluctant to drop in any glue -- thinking it might "glue up" the mirror mechanism.

Any ideas???

I would carefully pull the loose part forward, look at what it looks like behind it (a small dentist mirror can be helpful) and then apply Pliobond sparingly and in a targeted manner. Nothing should stick if you do it carefully.

If it doesn't fit, the glued panel can be pulled off again.

Pliobond is forgiving and can be removed again, either by scraping it off or with isopropyl alcohol.

If you want to attach the loose part permanently, apply it twice on each side.

Agree with contact cement. You could also take it off alltogether and replace with peel-and-stick self-adhesive black flocking.
