Straps that have film holders.....

I could probably find some pictures, but i think you guys know what i am talking about. Some camera straps had a few loops that were designed to hold extra (or just shot) film.
When you take a new roll from the box, the cartridge is in a plastic case. You would leave the film in that case, and put That in the loops on the strap.
Did or do you guys use that feature.?
I have tried it a few times, but never liked it. I am constantly switching my strap.....with camera down the front of my chest, ready to use...and then with camera hanging at My Side/Hip, out of the way until i am ready for it again.
The film always feels like it is in my way when it is on the strap. I usually carry a bag if i am out for a few hours, so i have more film in the bag.
Anyway.......Not a ground-breaking question...just curious if you guys ever got addicted to storing film on your straps.

I would tape the film cans to the strap. The tape was loose enough to allow rearrangement of the cans along the strap. Here is one such can on my SP500:

As an aside, I'm not surprised metal cans are no longer used, but I am bewildered why the black plastic containers have now been replaced by translucent ones - I want my film cassette shielded from light.

Many straps of "the day" were designed to hold a few rolls.......

I have a few vintage example, the elastic fails and the film cans fall out. I have metal cans, the metal ones dent, like others, I prefer the old black cannisters, the clear ones were a cost cutting expedient, the clear ones are cheaper since you no longer need a label on the top of the can.

Ilford still use black plastic for their cannisters, I always keep a few empty ones in my bag for exposed rolls. I wish someone would sell similar cannisters for 120 film. You can sometimes pick up twin rollfilm holders for 35mm that clip onto the camera strap from Ebay, I tried one but did not ike it, you have to take the film out of the plastic cannister to use them.

Most of my cameras don't have straps.I never used those with the film holders, do much crap banging around on the strap.

So, I checked old german catalogs "of the day"... Out of a dozen different wide strap models one had these loops at its inner side. None of the narrow straps had it.

I collect SLR cameras and many that I have purchased came with straps that had 3 film holders, usually the same material of the straps. Some were added to the straps with snap loops, some people used electrical tape. Back in the 1980's I found them useful and used them. I often carried my body with one lens and two other lenses in their cases rather than lug a camera case around. When I did that those film holders helped a lot. I only found them on narrow "factory" type straps, never those wide "hippie" straps.
Something similar was those clips that attached the lens cap to the body with a strap. I never used one of those. I always used factory lens shades w/o filters.
We all had our own styles.
