Yes, I have a few favorites in the area of brand new straps.

Number one, for smaller cameras, is the Domke Gripper.

It comes without a quick release (Domke 1" Web Camera Strap without Swivel (Black) 740-6BK) or with one (Domke 1" Web Camera Strap with Swivel Quick 741-6BK B&H).

They are simple, classy, affordable, and attractive. And the quick release models are not the plastic clippy kind that some people find scary to use. They are like over-sized necklace clasps.

Number two, for larger cameras (I use them for my medium and large format cameras, including my 7-pound Technika, and my hardly-light Mamiya Press and C-series cameras) is the Tamrac N-45 (Tamrac N-45 Foam Padded Leather Quick Release Camera N4501 B&H).

It is quick release strap with the plastic clips. This scares many people, but not me. I find it incredibly convenient to have the ends on all my C-series and Press cameras, and the Linhof. Then I can simply and quickly put whatever strap happens to be nearby onto whatever body. And they seem like perfectly solid clips to me. The straps are simple, classy, affordable, and attractive (once you remove the Tamrac name tag).

There are some other straps that look similarly attractive to me, such as the Tamrac N-17. But the two I named above are the ones I have settled on. I use the Tamrac when I need to carry more weight, and the Domke when I just need a simple small format camera strap.

With my digital cameras, I just use the strap that came with the camera, and color the writing in black so it is not so obnoxious. If it ain't broke, I don't fix it.

I also like, for small format cameras, the simple thin general-brand nylon straps that are about 3/8-in wide the entire length of the strap. IME they sort of come your way by chance, but trying to track down a new one in a store can be a chore. These are the best for carrying multiple cameras IMO. They don't tangle or get caught up. They slide smoothly over your neck or other straps, and they take up hardly any space. And for what they are, they ought to be dirt cheap.

For my Rollei 3.5F, I use the following: Amazon.com: KIWI 2 Count 36" Black Classic Shoe Laces Sold in packs of 6: Home & Garden. :D

The ones I truly cannot stand are the bouncy rubber ones. They feel and look so sleazy to me. They have provided no benefits that I have noticed, while simultaneously annoying the heck out of me with their bouncy nature and disgusting bicycle-shorts-like feel on the back of my neck. But some people love them.

I also don't like fat straps, in general. I often carry more than one camera, and skinny straps help a lot with this. But even with only one camera, fat straps still seem annoying to me. The only fat strap I use is the red canvas Canon 1980 Olympics one that came with one of my F-1's. It doesn't annoy me as much, because it is nice and worn in, not synthetic, and has good, solid, and easy to use clips.

How heavy is the SLR?

What is uncomfortable about the strap?

Where are you located? I think the best thing for you to do is to go into a place that carries a large selection of straps and see them in person. I wouldn't be able to tell you what you will find comfortable, if that is the issue.

I'm a big fan of the Op-tech system of neck straps although they can be a tad short for some.
They're super comfortable around the neck and the loop straps can be used for almost any type of lug.
Op-tech also has the lesser-available clips for Pentax pin-style lugs as well as for Hasselblad.
Try one any you'll never go back.

For wrist straps, I like the cheap basic nylons webbing.
They're essentially free (from cut up neck straps) and are more compact than the more expensive counterparts.
