I don't think this lens will ever show up on any APUG function, but I want to publish the details of a lens that was lifted from the Dick Welch's table at the PHSNE show and sale today in case anyone sees it for sale. It was there and then it wasn't. I don't expect that he will ever see it again, but I'd like, if I can, to make it difficult for the thief to make any money from his crime.

The lens is a Goerz Double Anastigmat. 6" Series III #1. The serial number is 130156. It is a small brass barrel lens, with some of the brass blacked and some lacquered. It had a flange attached when it "walked away" from the table. It is not particularly pretty, but it's a nice lens with good coverage and the bast&%# that took it should be... well, I'll let your imagination finish that one.

Whitey, I am sorry to hear about it. There was so much stuff on Dick's table, that I don't remember seeing it. It's a small LF world and it may wind up on Ebay or be seen locally. I will keep an eye out for it.

Too bad this had to happen, it was an enjoyable day at the show.

I am sorry to hear about this Whitey. Dick is such a nice gentleman, things such as this shouldn't happen.
I hope whoever ends up with it gets swirly bokeh shaped like devils' tail and the print turns black and goes poof into a small cloud of smoke!!

Would it make sense for there to be a register of stolen kit on APUG?

Don't know, Ian. It's an interesting idea. I would hope it to be a mostly unused forum, but then, I'm an optimist most of the time. I wrote about this theft on LF Forum, Photonet and Ebay Community last night as well as here. Anything I can do to get the word out.

Large photo shows are places where thieving could be more of a problem than it is. All that gear laid out on tables with owners distracted by questions and buyers must be attractive to slime-balls like the one who walked away with Dick's lens. I think the overall level of trust is remarkably high, considering. The occasional bad apple however...

We have one saying here to one who steal or make money unlawful or immoraly, and it goes like:

"If there is a God, you will need it for medicaments"
