Hi everyone. I had a package of beakers that were presumably stolen after it arrived at my apartment building.

These beakers were previously used to develop b&w film with the usual chemical baths.

As we all know, thieves tend to be ignorant of such things, and may attempt to use them for edible pursuits (if you catch my drift).

Can these beakers be potentially toxic give the above?

No. I presume they were at least lightly rinsed out before shipping.

If folks want to drink out of an uncleaned random beakers, then Darwin will not be far behind.

Hopefully your source wasn't both sloppy/unclean and using them for something exotic like uranium toner.

Hell no. They'll be chucked out of the window of a moving car. Whoever nickrd that package is probably disappointed it doesn't contain a new phone or Xbox. They don't have much interest in lab glass ware. If they do, they're going to make stuff with it that'll melt bigger holes in someone's brains than dichromate bleach would do, anyway. Don't worry about it. Sorry you lost the package though; sucks.

Yeah, the porch pirates will likely have chucked it. If you're lucky it might be in a dumpster or a garbage can somewhere nearby.

I agree, probably find it down the street. I once had $20,000 worth of radiation detection equipment (photomultiplier tubes, multichannel analyzers, etc.) in a tundra case stolen from my car in front of my apartment. A neighbor around the corner found it in his backyard the next morning. I'm sure they thought it was camera/video equipment, as both myself and my girlfriend were known to be photographers for music and art events. They were so disappointed they just threw the case out the back door into the neighbors yard. Still not sure how my neighbor figured out it was mine, but we both agreed upon who the culprits were...I payed them a visit that night.

I had by bag with my Rolleiflex in it stolen out of my van -- thiefs tossed it and the bag out of the car just down the road.

They didn't want the Rollei?!
No, but my light meter fell out of the bag somewhere along the way. Probably just looking for cash and drugs.

Fixer and acetic acid are not toxins.

Illegal drugs are all toxins, lethal ones at that. Don't people know this?

So your sister is a thief? 😁

I can see her enjoying a fresh serving of lemonade out of one of the beakers as we speak, and it must be delicious.

But the truth of the matter is that my PayPal app has been forwarding her address instead of mine.

And here they are looking for guns. Our local police just stated that several hundred guns have been reported stolen here in the past year and over half of them from vehicles. No surprise that we’ve had 5 homicides here in the past 2 weeks.

😎 Does not quite fit the definition of toxins, as toxins are only produced by living organisms...alcohol being one of the deadliest. A 250 pound bale of weed is toxic, I suppose, if it falls on you. So photo chemicals are not toxins by definition (well, citric acid can be made commercially by molds)...however they can be considered toxic. Lovely language, eh?

Glad the beakers showed up!!!

Some threads eventually become toxic and are locked before the participants turn the same colour as Dustin's man in #19

Probably not, but if they are it's a win - they deserve what they get.
