Recently I acquired a Graflex (Singer)6x7 roll back for Mamiya Universal . In running a roll of both T Max and FP4 through it, the wind lever seems very, very stiff once the film it is wound to the film plane. If this were a 35mm wind and this stiff , I would take it in for check .Having never used a roll back , is this normal?

Something isn't right. I have a Graflex ( Singer ) roll back that I use on my Super Speed Graflex and it winds with out a lot of resistance.
Might want to make sure the film is loaded correctly.
Check that the wind mech. works freely without film.
After that I don't know what else to look for that is within your control.
Good luck

There shouldn't be a lot of resistance. Check that the rollers are freely rolling. One thought on having it checked out -- Fred Lustig. The return spring on mine broke and he brought it back to "like new" functionality. I heard on another forum that he is well enough to do repairs.

I have one of those backs that I use on a Century Graphic. No stiffness at all. Very smooth. Smoother than a mamiya rb67 back. Is the spool binding?
