I know there has been some posts asking about how to fix the dreaded rubber coatings on camera bodies and lenses going all gooey. I have a couple of lenses and a body (nikon N90s) that have this issue. I have found that if I use liberal amounts of Armor All it stabilizes the rubber from deteriorating any further. It will not return that soft rubber feel when you use it. It will end up pretty hard and shinney but it won't be sticky any more. Many applications will be needed. Your mileage may very depending on how sticky your gear is and how much Amor All you use.

Disclaimer: If you try this it is at your own risk. If you try it and your gear melts away to a pile of goo don't blame me.

Hope that helps,
D.

Derek,
I also use Armor-All for sticky rubber coating. Good stuff!

I've used rubbing alcohol on some Nikon bodies with great success. DON'T, however, use it on a Minolta Maxxum 9 unless you want that rubbery stuff GONE GONE.

And I use dish liquid, mixed with a bit of water. Apply with a teflon pot scrubber, and, of course, carefully, so that no liquid goes into the camera. I have done this to one of the Yashica bodies and have had excellent results. The soap and scrubber take off that sticky layer and the 'rinsing' is done with a clean paper towel that is damp with clean water. Practical more than esoteric. - David Lyga
