Sticky Minox Developing Tank

I have two Minox developing tanks, one in mint condition (never used?) in which the central screw part turns freely ... as surely it should ... but the other is "sticky" to the point that I cannot turn it using the central knob, it's too stiff. Something needs lubricating/cleaning I suspect.

Does anyone know how to cure this problem? I suspect it's quite common with these old Bakelite tanks. It would be great to get this second tank working as it should.

I have been using Minox daylight tanks for many many years and I have never encountered this problem. Over the years I have accumulated quite a bunch with slight modifications from developing 50 exposure film strips to 15 exposure. Perhaps tank is dirty from old chemicals. I would first try soaking in hot water with a strong detergent, followed by a vigorous wiping down. If that fails, try soaking in weak acid.
Or:; Was the tank in new like condition when you acquired? If so, perhaps a burr or rough spot. Lubricating would not be a good idea.

Thank you! I guess cleaning it was the obvious solution ... but not so obvious that I thought of it! Simple solutions are the best. Works perfectly now, thanks again.
