What is the purpose of step wedges in PS or Lightroom? I just adjust the overall picture and see if i looks good to my eye. After all, one picture may look better with nice tones throughout. But another may look better with more or less contrast, etc. In any case, how do you use the step wedge when you process? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Someone else is going to have to respond with details, but as I am understanding from the various videos and sites that I have read, it's used to determine exposure times, and curves adjustments to your printed negatives.

Just so you know, this sub-forum is supposed to be for 100% analog alternative processes only. There is a another dedicated sub-forum called Digital Negatives where this will be more appropriate and more likely to bring proper attention to your question. For mixed digital and alternative process discussions, there is the Hand Coated Wet Prints.

(I personally don't care though.)

oops... I guess you're correct. However I can't delete the thread now unfortunately. Perhaps a moderator can move it accordingly. My apologies for the oversight.

Here’s a step less step wedge. I was a bit disappointed that it’s just a photographic negative. I had hoped it would be cast gelatin.

So then I found this glass wedge.

I am looking forward to doing some toe speed studies where I don’t have to interpolate where 0.1 is
