step by step, how to print publication??

Ilford has a great step by step, on how to process your first roll of B&W.
Is there something like that available on how to print you first print?
I have recently aquired all the "stuff" but I need to know the steps to success!!
 
Check out Calumet's DVD of the Fred Picker videos. One was titled "Printing with Fred Picker." That should get you started. His assistant in that video, Bruce Barlow, has a wonderful book of CD titled "Finely Focused", an excellent read for every photographer. Check out the book at www.circleofthesunproductions.com
 
You're looking for catalog #192-7328. The text on the cover is 'ILFORD MULTIGRADE PAPERS: A Manual For The Darkroom'. It pretty much covers it all. I just got this about three weeks ago. I have had 'Step By Step Into You Darkroom' for about a year or so now and it is pretty thorough as well.
 
Are you anywhere near a decent library? There are many books that cover all of this.
 
Slightly more on the technical side, I would suggest Ansel Adams' 'The Print'.
 
If you liked Ilford's step by step guide for film development, you'll probably like this one. That's all you need to get you started. I've only got one more suggestion to make. You don't need to waste whole sheets of paper to make test strips. 1/3 or 1/4 of a sheet will do just fine if you use it wisely. Just make sure you include the full tonal range of your negative in the strip. You might not know what I'm talking about now, but everything will be clear if you read the linked pdf.
 
Ansel Adams' The Print is a good book. I have also a book from Kodak "Quality Enlarging with Kodak B/W Papers" and of course there is no more Kodak B/W papers but the book deals with a lot of aspect of B/W enlarging rather than just paper and processing which the Ilford literature addresses quite well.
If you're interested perhaps I can scan the sections related to B/W enlarging only and not the paper section.

I went to he library and had them place a hold on Ansel Adam's the Camera, the Negative and the Print. They should be in in a week or so.
 
Okay Barry! I will start on the scanning process. It will take sometime but then I don't have a job right now!
 
I took the Nikon Coolpix 5000 to shoot all of the 139 pages. I put them in the PDF but there is a couple of problem. The files is about 200MB and many of the pages are out of order.
 
I got the file in order and reduce the file size to 17MB. If you give me an email address I will try to send it to you.

Don't send me a copy, but why don't you send a copy to a Kodak. They might be interested in your efforts. Would you like a contact? I have a few.
 
Why should I send it to Kodak? I am kind of violating their copyright by scanning and distribute them. However, I don't think they would procecute as well as they would not sell another copy if someone wants one. Only because of that I don't feel too bad about it but yes I do feel some what guilty.

One caution though - links to the Kodak websites seem to adjust themselves depending on where you are based (in Canada, I'm often re-directed to the Canadian site), so sometimes you don't get where you expect to be.

You are correct. The book is out of print, but I don't think that eliminates Kodak's copyright. I don't even know if they would care, but you might put yourself at risk while trying to help others. That would be sad.

You might consider asking Kodak - they might be willing to put it up for web distribution themselves.

That is the safest way. Here in Europe (mostly young) lawyers play a strange 'game' at the moment. They go through the web, looking for copyright violations. When they find a potential candidate, they contact the 'culprit', notify him or her of the violation and ask for the material in question to be removed, along with a request to reimburse them for their services. Strangely enough, their doing seems to be within legal limits of most countries. Apparently, eBay, popular bulletin boards and privat home pages are their main target. Let's not give them an opportunity and respect the copyright laws.

Do we now for sure that Kodak has not posted this publication already?
