Yes, forgot about those stakes, that would work.Lines and stakes?
That would be a hard to count up towards the head and flame, and what if they corrected for convergence from bottom to top by adding more men to the top, considering the angle of view of the photo. Looks like it could have been taken from a aircraft or blimp.I'm skeptical of the 18,000 number... Maybe 1800. I started at the base, counted the number of men at the widest point, then started counting rows. I got 17 men across at the widest point, then made it to her ribcage at 40 rows. That's 680 people. Still cool. And look at the size of the buildings - 18,000 people would have put the buildings in the background much farther away.
Oh, it is very hard to count. I'm just skeptical of the 18,000 number. 8,000 maybe. I don't know. That would be a hard to count up towards the head and flame, and what if they corrected for convergence from bottom to top by adding more men to the top, considering the angle of view of the photo. Looks like it could have been taken from a aircraft or blimp.
Wow...drew an outline on the lens. Thanks Theo each image has some info..
Ffor the Statue of Liberty:
"Arthur's great nephew Joseph Mole, 70, says: "In the picture of the Statue of Liberty there are 18,000 men: 12,000 of them in the torch alone, but just 17 at the base. The men at the top of the picture are actually half a mile away from the men at the bottom"
The third one states:
"Mole and Thomas' work was the first to use a unique technique to beat the problem of perspective after they devised a clever way of getting so many soldiers in the pictures. Arthur's great nephew Joseph explains: "Arthur was able to get the image by actually drawing an outline on the lens, he then had the troops place flags in certain positions while he looked through the camera..."
Very creative...well done, ... not gonna try it...
