Thanks for sharing your results.
The HRX shots are indeed visibly sharper and higher resolving. Confirms my own results. But I had also a bit finer grain with Acros-HRX. But I have tested in 35mm, and compared the optical prints.

It is a high concentrated developer. You can develop a lot of films with it (the exact number is dependent on the film type, as different films have different dilutions).
Developer costs in BW are so extremely low in general that it is not a relevant topic in my opinion.

I have no idea where you are but FotoImpex in Germany appears to be selling it at 17 euros including tax and shipping

It will never be as cheap in N America as in Europe and while it may not be important on a certain person's radar as part of an extra tariff package to be levied if U.S/ Europe trade relations were ever to go sour then the outlook of it ever being a reasonably priced developer in the U.S. may not be helped if a tariff war were to start. Not trying to be political but it's just an other reason that militates against any reduction in the future in my opinion

17€ is for the 100ml version, that is 10 rolls.
10 rolls I can develop them in a bottle of Foma LQN which costs me about 4€... with comparable results.

Nice video, thank you. I like the edge sharpness given by HRX. But, like you, I also prefer the tonal rendition of the Xtol 1+1. Even if I thought HRX out performed Xtol in both criteria, it appears it would've been only by a very small degree, so minimal, that I couldn't justify the exorbitant cost over Xtol. I currently use Xtol now but have standardized my speed and dev times at 1+0. Soon I'll be standardizing at 1+1 to give more edge sharpness than I'm getting from the stock solution.

You were right, but how about tonal separation? I prefer XTOL 1+1 as andy said in the vídeo.

I'm wondering if Perceptol 1+3 would be even better than both. You might have to drop the film speed a little bit though.

I have been wondering the same thing, especially with regard to edge sharpness. I looked it up at B&H and saw that the package makes just one liter of stock solution and cost $16. In my SP445 tank at 1+3, that gives me 8 developing opportunities and I usually will develop just one or two sheets at a time, so potentially 16 sheets of film development for $16. Xtol cost $16 for 5 liters of stock solution, so the greater mileage from Xtol is obvious. However, that cost differentiation at Xtol 1+1 (42 developing opportunities) is not huge in my view, primarily since I don't develop a bunch of film in any one year's time. I use TMX and have seen others comment that Perceptol 1+3 does indeed increase the edge sharpness of TMX.

Or presumably any other film? Unless there is something different about this one film and one particular developer?

Berry Thornton in Edge of Darkness give high marks to Perceptol and his own version of it for high edge sharpness and tone. Here in the U.S you can still the Kodak version, Microdol X from Freestyle as Legacy Pro X Mic X for $20 a gallon. That will make 3 gallons at 1:3.

Yup, Andy does a great job on his videos and does all of us curiosity seekers here a great service. I have saved money just by watching his videos. For me, HRX probably wouldn't be worth the extra cost since I shoot mainly medium format, but I think it would possibly benefit the 35mm shooter. I can't see where there would be really any improvement over my XT-3-R developer for my style shooting. I have some Adox HR-50 35mm coming that might benefit from it, but will us XT3-R first and see what it's like. It's a 36 exp roll that will take a decade for me to shoot since 35mm isn't me.

What we need to do,Andy, if we appreciate your videos is both to subscríbe to them and "like" them. It may be my ignorance of how it works but when I see them on Photrio and have not yet been notified by YouTube of each I cannot see any way to "like" them here so I switch to YouTube and do it there

While we don't have "likes" on Photrio and for good reasons, it becomes important for you and your presence on YouTube or so I understand it to be

Yes, Andy that would be fitting as far as this guy is concerned. Your curiosity helps kill my cat and at no expense to me! Your touch of humor also makes them very enjoyable. All I know is they sure beat watching those d#%*n political ads we're getting flooded with on TV here right now. Nov. 5th can't come soon enough for me. If donuts would hold up in shipment from Clare, MI. I'd gladly send you a dozen blueberry, cherry and apple fritters from my local "Cops and Donuts"store. Sometime I'll send you a pic of the store and how it was founded. Keep up the good work Andy and I truly hope you enjoy doing the videos as much as we enjoy watching them. JW

Thanks! Subscribing, liking, really does help. I don't really ask people in my videos to, as I feel awkward. If people appreciate the content, they'll subscribe without being told to, anyway. I think I appreciate all comments made, more then anything, though.
