Spring vs bail arm backs for 8x10

Either I can't find a suitable set of search terms, or this hasn't been discussed much (probably the former)

SO ... why would one choose a bail arm back over a sprung back (or vice versa)?

As with most choices in equipment, I realise that it will probably be largely down to personal preference, but as someone who is looking around for an 8x10 at the moment, I'd be interested to hear people's rationales for their preference.

All backs have springs--the bale lets you slide film holders in and out easily, without jarring the camera. I wish they were standard on most cameras.

To reiterate: the bail arm levers the back open so that you are able to insert the film holder without applying pressure against the camera.

i have used but don't have a bail arm
and like barry i wish they were the standard
so what i have would have them. unfortunately
my backs are all plain old springs so i have to PRAY
the camera doens't move when i jiggle the film holder in .
i'm used to it, but with a big weighty camera it moves on the tripod ( a little /
sometimes ) no matter how you tighten it down ... it is a great solution to the problem.

i think there are people who can modify a spring back to have a bail lever ( like mr ritter in vt )
but it probably isn't inexpensive ...
