For my friends at APUG. This is also posted at LFForum.

A page of rubbish pics made today with a 5" f2.4!! theatre projection petzval on 4X5.

This lens is so fast the only possible way to shoot it is with a Speedy Graphic 4X5.

I also shot a cheap little 1914 - ish Rexo 165mm that I fiddled with to make it softer.

Please have a look - or not. I know, it's a shameless plug, but lots of folks seem to like these pages.

Having fun with photography is never rubbish in my book. Even if afterwards the images aren't what we set out for. (BTW: not in this particular case)
It's the road we travel on that matters, not the destination in itself!

And you enjoyed the car also, didn't you?
What a way to spend a spring day ;-)

Wow, now there's a contrast.
On digital forums everyone posts pictures *of* their new lenses until some spoilsport want to see something taken *with* it (besides the inevitable "100% crops").
Now here you post a (great, btw) photo *with* the lens and everyone just wants to see photos *of* it...

I have a plate camera with what may be that same Rexo lens, and it really punches above its weight for a triplet (indeed for a long time I assumed it wasn't one). Might be worth playing with in its stock configuration.

These are pretty cool! I'd love to get a similar lens for my speed graphic.

Except the focal plane shutter has been torn out of my camera lol.

NT, I quite agree, and did just that yesterday. Haven't got the film developed yet, but what a little sweetee that lens seems to be.

Wonderful rubbish! The image quality of the vintage lenses, the vignetting and the mint condition of the A makes the photographs look as if they were taken 80+ years ago when the car was new. A two-tone grey 1930 Model A Fordor was my first car -- I drove it when I was in high school, back in the Stone Age.

I especially like the effect in the fifth photo on your page. Toward the center of the image, the trees are warped at the top, and not warped in the reflection on the car (except at the far edge). With a little cropping you can make people go crazy trying to replicate it with photoshop.

Thanks Truzi. Of course, anybody trying to replicate one of my photos would already be crazy. Yeah, I like that one too.
