I have an urgent need of some advice. I need to spot tone a white spot on chamois paper to match the chamois base. I used the photoformulary spotting reducer to remove the black spot which worked like a charm and now I need to match in the spot to the color of the paper. I've never spotted high key images. The color is almost biscuit color with a hint of sepia, much like what you get when bleaching a high key warm tone print.

I'm using "Spot-Tone" for my spotting and have 6 colors to choose from. but not yellow/cream. Anyone out there ever attempt this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can't afford any more ruined prints. :surprised:

Thanks! Dorothy

Colored inks might be a solution (groan). I have a set of transparent inks I use for hiding blemishes. A cyan/yellow/magenta set should allow you to (in theory) match most colors.

That's not a problem. For difficult surfaces I use my own saliva to dilute the ink (like spot tone..) Why saliva ? because it is more "sticky" and adheres more to the surface of a paper like 542II.
As for the colour itself, unless it is a very big area, you should easily find a combination of grey ink with brown/selenium ink which should match your colour. The eye is very reactive to a white spot in a dark zone but even if you filled the white spot with grey instead of sepia, the eye would be much less attracted and many viewers wouldl not even notice.
Of course, no need to mention that you should test on a similar bit of paper..
Good luck.
