Speed Graphics Anniversary bed screws.

Hi all,

I carry the Anniversary with me in the bike and due vibrations I have lost 2 screws (now I tighten them before the ride).
Part numbers: 31089P6 and 31226P2 as per the service manual.
They belong to the bed rail and the bed of the front.
I tried and wrote already to a seller in the big site but maybe you know someone I can ask for them.

When you get new ones, a little mild thread retainer would seem indicated. I used to have some at work that was just a nitrocellulose lacquer -- essentially clear nail polish, only thicker.

I have mine for the bike but it’s blue, a transparent one should be wiser

as you're a Subscriber why not place a Wanted advert here on the Forum. I just checked and while I have a spare track-bed for a Quarter plate Speed Graphic it's missing two screws and mounts to the door differently. It's the same sized screws for Quarter plate and 5x4 Speed and Crown Graphics yours are just painted black.

Second thoughts, now I've walked the dog I disassembled the Quarter plate track and guides, I can spare two screws while both are ones that hold the track guides like the one missing top left of your photo they'll also fit the other location bottom right (just checked with a Pacemaker Speed Graphic only difference is it doesn't have a domed head.

Let me know if you want them. I've planned to use the focus track-bed and guides on a home made camera and will use wood screws to attach the guides something I've done before. I intend making a 6x17 camera.

I used to cycle a lot with my Wista 45DX, it's best to wrap the camera in a dark-cloth to try and minimise vibration.

Looks great... I've planned to make something like that out of good old baby graphic for 43super angulon and 100 Planar ....

Graflex and older Graphics used custom screws which are near impossible to replace. I strongly recommend that we carry your Speed Graphic in a bag rather than strap it on to the bike.

For future reference download the Graflex C3 manual from Butkus site https://www.cameramanuals.org/prof_pdf/c-3_graflex_camera.pdf
C3 is the military nomenclature for the Anniversary Speed Graphic. It has the screw types listed.
Screw- yoke guide 1/4 inch (long) No 2 56 flhd. (flat head)
Screw- bed block not specified.
The same screws are used on Pacemaker Speed. The screw is listed as machine special. Its a No 2-56 with a round head the size of a No 6 or No 8 machine screw.

FWIW, given those are standard threads with larger heads than usual for their thread, it would be relatively easy to make new ones, if you have a lathe (or can improvise one). You'd get 2-56 round head screws, standard head, in brass, machine a head with a matching recess, and silver solder the screw into the head recess, then cut the head off the stock, touch it up, and cut the slot. Alternatively, you'd get flat head screws and a suitable oversize washer, countersink the washer to match the screw head profile, and optionally extend the slot across.

Probably a cost prohibitive process if you need thousands (though that starts to approach cost effectiveness for a screw machine run), but if you need a couple screws and have the tools, not a huge project.
