Speed Graphic shutter pinhole repair

I am looking for a suitable material to effect the repair of a few pinholes in my newly acquired pre-anniversary Speed Graphic's shutter. I have heard references to 'liquid electrical tape' - is this any good and where can I get it in the UK? Also does anyone know where to find the correct repair manual for the camera?

Given the nature of the shutter, I have to wonder if a pinhole would be all that problematic. A hole, yes, a pinhole, especially at high shutter speed, just doesn't seem to me that it will make a lot of difference. Have you tried some test shots to see?

As for material, you would want something flexible and if it bonds to the shutter roll you would want to make sure it is dry and no longer bondable when rerolled onto the spindles. You might also consider real electrical tape instead of something liquid.

Black artist's acrylic applied with a toothpick or sewing needle should fix you up.
I don't think putting electrical tape on fabric would be a permanent fix & if the tape came off (which it will) it could introduce some new & exciting problems to your camera.

I would not recommend the electrical liquid tape, it has a tendancy to stay a bit sticky once applied, I tried it once on a set of bellows and it made a real mess, finally I ended up pealing it off, you might try some of the bellows repair kits that are sold..

I'm with John. Balck acrylic can be diluted with water and it will still stop the light. It dries completely in a few minutes and stays flexible. Be carful ad do't over dilute it. Try a little bit and touch it to a piece of cloth to see how it dries prior to putting it on the shutter curtain. I use it at about the consistency of buttermilk.

Thanks for the suggestion of black acrylic paint - now to work out how to remove the spring back from the camera...
