spectrographic film & plates

can anybody tell me the best emulsion formula for making emulsion for spectrographic film and plates. emulsion should be non dyed, good contrast for line density, and sharpness, its used in the 220nm to 380nm spectrum range blue area. going to coat 35mm wide film base, and 2x14 plates. The emulsion must have good resolving power and sharpness. thanks

Welcome from a fellow Oregonian!

Can you tell us a little more about your plans for the emulsion and how much experience you have as a photo cook? The nm range you're talking about is in the UV, also sometimes called 'color blind'. If you are coating film and plates you'll need what is called a 'washed' emulsion, which are more usually bromide emulsions rather than chloride. You might experiment first with one of the commercial 'liquid emulsions', since you didn't specify that speed is an issue. Also, if you are willing to roll your own there are a number of options. Thanks for all your help on this ,will first do photo eng., then try some of the others all on the subbed film from formulary. If you have anymore ideas please let me know. Resolution of the lines and consistant results are very important with the emulsion, speed not to fast. Have did some photo cooking in the past. Thanks again lynn
