Does anyone have the Spectral Transmission data for
ILFORD's special SFX200 Filter?

Ilford SFX technical document said:
Very deep red
ILFORD SFX, B+W RG665, B+W 092, Heliopan 695
and 715, Hoya R72 and Kodak Wratten 89B. These
filters give an even more dramatic effect than deep red
filters. However, exposure times with these filters can be
very long, so the use of a tripod is recommended.

My Hoya R72 cuts off light below 720nm, so the Ilford SFX filter would be around that area, I believe.

I recently bought some SFX200 to try with my Rolleiflex. Does anyone know if the Rollei IR filter is the same sort of filter factor?

[The little information I can find on-line seems to suggest it is].

Please don't hijack my thread! :D

I don't understand your question, but the filter factor for SFX is same as for Kodak's 89b which is 16 (a 4 stop increase).

I need the transmission data for Ilford SFX200 filter,
but if Rollei makes an IR filter, I would be interested any data on that too!

If you have a spare one I can get a rough transmission curve with the spectrometer here in the lab. Writing to Ilford might be easier though

If one turns up, I will keep you in mind :D

Unfortunately, neither option will be in the nick of time.

If Ilford wanted us to know, I guess they would have put the info on their web or at least... in the box with the film or Hey! with the filter itself!

Here are the spectral curves for B+W IR filters from their filter handbook (downloadable from the Schneider website).

If B+W 092 is the same as your Ilford filter this should give you the info you need.

Doremus,

Thanks.

I was not aware of that site. Eons ago I bought a number of there special effect filters... nice to see they are still going!

I don't know if that filter is close to the SFX200 filter or not, but we may find out eventually, one way or another.

Anyway... it is still good to see B&W's data!
(OK... what is a wavefront distortion,
and why do I, the photographer, want to know about it? :confused:smile:

Someone mentioned asking Harman about their filter, but if they have just laid off 80 people, perhaps now is not the best time... I think thats like 20 to 25% of their workforce isn't it?

oldfaithful58,
I appreciate your effort... but I guess you know I was asking about the filter which goes by the exact same name :surprised:

The film spec sheet I have ... (the film I will have on Sunday!) All I need now is to make a final filter choice.... Thats why I'd like to see "SFX200 the filter" info... but it occurs to me that the data might not be published.

Thanks, though.

And thanks, AgX
