I had a problem with blotchy skies on some Ektar last year and it's happening again...

Can anyone give me any idea what is going wrong? The Lab is reputable and really consistant, so I am left to think I have had a really dodgy batch of film, but its only an amateur guess...

I think it more like the backing paper and film has some problem, if a roll film was damp, the result is very similar.

Is it 120 or 35mm? Is it the same batch as you had last year? Did you process it yourself? What chemistry?

I'd guess condensation. I've never personally seen any bad Ektar, in any format.

Alright, it is darker on the negative to appear as white specks above. It is small in appearance. This is either dust on or embedded in the negative, or developer foam carried into the bleach allowing development to continue. Condensation would appear different IMHO and usually some paper sticks to the film if it is that bad.

There are several possible issues but I would have to give it more thought and perhaps view the negative.

I would contact the lab and EK and get opinions from them.

In the thread on markings showing through on some films (Kodak and others), the phone number and name are given for a contact at EK.

Since Alaris is in the UK, you should be able to contact them easily. Their phone # might be on the film box.

Alaris isn't even mentioned on the newly packaged TMY-2 I just received from Alaris in Rochester.

I did get this once on a neg in the mountains very early on a cold especially damp morning rushing to capture the light, yet knowing better. I even
pulled the darkslide on my roll film back and saw the dew on the next potential neg. So I walked over to a sunlit rock and let the holder as well as my 4x5 camera reach equilibrium. Keeping it in the waterproofed pack all nite wrapped in a goosedown coat over-insulated it from the ambient temperature. I knew I was pushing it from the condensation on the ground glass itself. After developing the roll, only the early frames were affected, the ones exposed to water vapor forming in the bellows. But there may indeed be other explanations in this case. I was on a learning curve because
I'm was more accustomed to using plastic sheet film holders under such circumstances rather than all-metal roll film holders. But I did manage to
bag the scene finally on the same roll. The light held.
