Hi All,

I was going to hold off on this announcement until the site upgrade was launched, but since there have been delays, I thought it best to go ahead and make the announcement now.

As most of you know we ran into some major problems with our server and hosting situation. Things were NOT looking good and I knew we needed a massive change to ensure this site remained reliable or 'mission critical' so to speak. We have a mass of traffic and data used per day so needed a new system to accomodate this. What I found after much research was that this would be impossible because such a system could push us towards 10k a year in operating costs. Still not giving up, I decided to contact 4 companies to see if they would like to partner with us and help offset most of these costs. Much to my relief these 4 companies stepped up to the plate and saved the day by equally contributing to make our recent server and host move to rackspace.com a reality. To give you an idea of the shop we are now housed at, Rackspace as of 2005 host 15% of the websites for the Fortune 100. This could not have been made possible whatsoever without the support of:

J and C Photo - http://www.jandcphoto.com
Ilford - http://www.ilfordphoto.com
Elevator Gallery - http://www.elevatordigital.ca/
Calumet - http://www.calumetphoto.com/

I am still 100% in control of APUG. The partnership mainly involves corporate support to our community and the community giving visibility of that support (a block on the homepage and site footer are coming). Also, plans are in place for a quarterly APUG newsletter which will contain apug news as well as messages from our partners (more on that later). I wanted to chose a diverse group of partners, companies that I respect and will enjoy working with.

John at J and C, Simon Galley at Ilford, Bob & Kevin at Elevator, and Jerri Helms at Calumet thank you so much for believing in APUG!

Sean

YAY! These are the best people, in my opinion, to partner with this site. I've shopped with J&C a couple of times and plan to buy more from them and of course I've used Ilford film quite a bit. This is a great step forward. Thank you to all the companies for supporting those of us who still use film and thanks to Sean for this forum, a place where we can go to converse with others who share our passion.

Great news, Sean!

I'm working down my current film inventory and will soon be placing an order with J and C Photo.

And special thanks to Ilford. Wish the guys with the yellow and green boxes would be as supportive of the traditional art!

Fuji was a sponsor of the 2006 APUG Conference in Toronto; I don't think there is any question about their support for film. However, Kodak was missing in action.

Congratulations Sean. As already mentioned, the partners are companies with whom we should all do business. Maybe we aren't there yet, but the Future is so Bright you Have to Wear .

WOW! These guys are aces!! I will make it a point to choose them over any other vendors I would have otherwise dealt with even if it means paying a little bit more. Well done, Sean.

REDUCTION OF APUG OPERATING COSTS

Calumet, Elevator, Ilford, and J&C.
Ideal blend and fit.
APUG, Calumet, Elevator, Ilford, and J&C.
No doubt this film based market sector benefits with increase market share.
And Sean you can be proud to be a contributor.
Big step to keep film moving out of manufactures shipping departments to fellow photographic supply consumers.
