Hello all,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Can a Hasselblad 500C/M be used for spare parts to repair a 503CW ?
500C/M was introduced on 1970 and replaced on 1994.
503CW was introduced on 1996 to maybe 2012!
Both cameras was different models and each was not belonging to the same sequence of camera model.
BTW, 500C/M was the longest made camera ever, as far as I know. Lasted 24 years of making the same camera model.
Thanks very much.

Sirius, that’s really amazing. Thank you much.
But, do you have any sources?
Or, just general consensus?
Regards.

You can trust Sirius. Hasselblad is his thing. He can quote himself as a source.

I trust him of course, but a purchase could be based upon the answer, if it’s truly “Yes”!
Used 503CW,s on ebay are way far from any dream!
Thanks Ariston.

Thank you all for your posts.
.
Contacted David Odes, and replied:
" Most of the interior parts in the 500 C/M are identical to the interior parts in the 503 CW. "
Would like to send my thanks and appreciations to him for his timely assistance and reply.
Kind person and professional specialist.
Thanks indeed David.

Odess is really a great guy. He has a rich history of sharing accurate information.

Note, however... “Most of...”. That’s what I meant... inside parts/components (the “guts”), not accessories like power winders.

... although is completely true that “most of” the accessories interchange too.

Most are the same but it is pretty much guaranteed that when the times comes the one you need won't be interchangeable. :D

Lol:D
I do not wish the camera stop working in the first place.
That information “... most ...” means to me a higher value of 500C/M if still offered at a good price.
Thanks for your comment Film_Man.

Pardon me if I’m getting too personal... but are you buying a spare body to ensure a source of future parts? If so, I’d ask Odess one more question, “what are the commonly needed parts?” My impression is that few body parts ever need replacement if the body is maintained. Same with shutter, although some have expressed concern about mainspring availability.

Hello Brian,
Yes indeed in someway.
An active 500C/M camera body has been offered to me.
In the process of evaluating what 500C/M means to my current camera 503CW body in the future, I asked the question of this thread!
The reply of Mr. Odess imply that most common parts that need replacement are shared between the two cameras. Or at least AFAIK!
Otherwise, I assume he elaborated more if there is a specific part/s that “commonly” need replacement but is not shared or compatible between the two cameras!
I know that other 503CW(CX & XCi, also) body is the best compatible, but not the option for the time being and unfortunately not offered to me. Told him so to limit his reply to 500C/M.
Anyway, Mr. Odess reply has clarified an issue about the value of 500C/M very well for now.
He is a gentleman professional and I value much his kind willing to share his experience.
Thanks indeed Brian.

Through Googling, one can find the service manuals for Hasselblad cameras. They have part lists with part numbers. The parts that can be used in more than one model will show on both lists with the same part numbers.
