The April show at VCP Is Spaces Between by Heather Beard

Heather Beard’s photographs, on exhibition at Vermont Center for Photography, explore “spaces between,” that is those places that are somewhere between presence and absence.

Two sites that are explored in Beard’s photographs are the now defunct C.F. Hathaway Shirt Company ** factory in Waterville, Maine, and the Bardwell Farm in Keene, New Hampshire, now demolished.

The photography sometimes includes Heather Beard’s body, shown as ephemeral, passing through or temporarily inhabiting the spaces she is photographing. This raises certain questions: can her actions, once recorded in a vacant factory or a now razed farm, change our thinking about the places?

This exhibition opens Friday, April 3 and runs through Sunday, April 26. The opening reception is Friday, April 3, starting at 6pm, with refreshments provided. The public is invited. The Gallery is located just off of Flat Street next to the parking garage in downtown Brattleboro.

Gallery hours are Friday, 2 to 7 pm; Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 pm; or by appointment. For directions or information, please call 802-251-6051 or visit the website at http://www.vcphoto.org.
