SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LARGE AND ULTRA LARGE FORMAT GROUP “ Let’s Meet”

Tri Tran, Hugo Zhang and I would like to invite our fellow photographers in the Southern California area to a special event that we are going to have in Orange County at the end of this month. We thought that we would put together a show for those interested in seeing and sharing some wonderful equipment and images. If things pan out we may make this a yearly event. We are testing the waters so to speak and invite those who may be interested to stop by.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
LARGE AND ULTRA LARGE FORMAT GROUP
“ Let’s Meet”
Sunday October 28, 2012
12:00 – 6:00 pm
Green Valley Clubhouse

Please join Tri Tran, Hugo Zhang and Jim Fitzgerald on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 17250 Los Jardines West, Fountain Valley, Ca 92708, from noon to 6 pm.
Large and Ultra Large Format cameras plus a variety of soft focus lenses will be on display.
Traditional silver gelatin, platinum and carbon transfer prints will also be available for viewing.
A discussion of traditional printing techniques and the use of film and x-ray films will be part of the activities.
The program consists of the following:
• 12:00 – 1:00 pm – Introduction and print viewing, portfolio exchange.
• 1:00 – 2:00 pm – Equipment discussion (lenses, cameras, camera building and film)
• 2:00 – 6:00 pm – portrait session (with provided 8x10 Century Studio Camera and lenses)
We ask all serious photographers to prepare by having their portfolio ready to show to collectors who may wish to purchase their work at show-discounted prices and to view and to discuss their work with other artists. For those who wish to shoot portraits, please bring your 8x10 film holders loaded with your favorite film.
Light refreshments will be served.

What a wonderful idea. WIsh I were closer. Please post more about the event as it unfolds. I would like to borrow some of your ideas for our NE OH Gatherings.

Jim, after our recent Redwoods trip I'd love to turn around and head back down. I hate missing these; next year! How many next years are there though? Tri, Hugo, Jim, the best of luck and have a great time. Same to Matt.

One more bump for this event. If you are in the LA area on Sunday please come by. There will be a lot to see. I will bring my 3 Walnut ULF cameras that I built plus some old brass lenses and I'm sure that Tri and Hugo will bring some great stuff as well. This will be a nice opportunity to see 14x17, 16x20 and 20x24 cameras along with the lenses we use and the Century 8A to use if you wish to do a portrait. So don't miss the fun.

I want to thank everyone who participated in the event. We had a nice turn out and met some new friends. It was great to exchange ideas, talk about what we do, sell items and generally have a great day. We will have another event like this next year. Many things to discuss and if you have some ideas send me a pm or an e-mail and let me know your thoughts. I'll follow up with everyone in a few days with some ideas for next year.

Tri, thanks for getting the venue together. It was a great spot. Thanks to everyone who brought some food. We had a lot! The weather was beautiful and I'm thinking throughout the day we had close to 100 or so come to visit. I'm sure there will be some more images posted here and elsewhere.

The equipment was nice to see. Full plate to 20x24 cameras, Polaroid demos in 8x10 and 4x5 PN55 and some did portraits. Some great discussions about lenses and some great glass from P&S, Dallmeyer, Darlot, Voigtlander. The for sale items we priced "to sell" and some of the sellers sold some great items. I was tempted but held off. I mean some sweet deals. Next year I would not be surprised to see more.

Everyone got to have some one on one time with the artists who had their work on display and ask about the processes they do. All in all a great event. Thanks everyone who came to support the large and ultra-large format community.
