Source for Thomas Safelight Ballast/transformer?

My Thomas is acting up...light works but flickers and the unit makes a humming noise.

Is the ballast/transformer only available from Thomas MFG (B&H,etc) or does anyone know of a similar replacement? Other sources? Quick fix? Diagnosis?

B&H lists a transformer for $60 but no info on it...

It might be cheaper in the long run to pickup a used one off e-bay or your local used photo outlet.

Are you sure its not the bulb? I have several outdoor light units (transform type) that, when the bulb is going, will start humming load, flicker, even cycle off then back on. Change the bulb, back to normal.

No, I am not sure. I don't have a spare bulb to try. Perhaps I should get that first and see what's up.

I believe bulbs are quite expensive. I would bet it is the bulb, but it may be better to buy one complete unit on ebay for close to the same of a new bulb.
