Anyone here have a recommended repair service that will work on a Pentax LX? I'm having a problem with mine that the film advance clutch is slipping. My local repair shop, which is generally quite skilled, turned it down after attempting to work on it because he could get it to work properly for a while, but then it would start slipping again and not advancing the film.

Call KEH.com and ask if they can service the Pentax LX.

Someone on Pentax forum said a guy Named Jim Holtman at ICT camera worked on his a couple years ago. Update is if you use him. I have two LX’s.

Advance Camera in Portland OR is the best place to get an LX serviced in the US (as far as I know). They have a lot of experience working on them, have at least some stock of spare parts and can even reapply the weather sealing.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to contact them.

That's interesting. Eric used to work on mine but I know parts, especially weather sealing, were starting to get hard to find.

Sounds like a BMW 7-series or VW Phaeton situation. (insert your favorite luxury car brand here)
Then: Top-line, complex, expensive, few made, few service techs, expensive service.
Now: Top-line, complex, cheap to buy, few left, fewer service techs, expensive service.

So it goes. Of course if simplicity and ruggedness were the only criterion we'd all be using Argus C-3s.

I'm about to the point where I think I may wait until I can go to Japan and just buy another body there where I can test it out in the store before I buy it. I wouldn't have to wait THAT much longer

I believe International Camera Technicians will do it. I talked to them about getting the jammed multi-function lever on my Pentax LX fixed. I still need to get that done. I used to get all my work done by them when they were in Mountain View before the owner moved to San Diego and sold the business.

Thanks for that- I have reached out to them to see what they say. They are also doing a waitlist for repairs - hopefully they will contact me reasonably soon to let me know if it is even something they can fix, with a ballpark quote and a timeframe.
