Jnantz, I'm surprised this isn't one of your usual polls; it will make the impetus slightly more difficult to find
Sorry if I sound like a jerk but does anyone really care, I mean really care?
I know the big thing about photographers, any kind, is to make photographs that last a long time.
Years, decades or centuries are better. But to be honest does anyone really care about the photos we or most photographers or hobbyists or whatever make ??
I did say SORRY before this and in the title because I am sorry. I know most people enjoy what they are doing and want others to be able to see what they have loved doing and maybe get a kick or be inspired by the things that we might have found interesting, or what some may say " our passion" ..
I know when I am all done I don't think anyone will really care about anything I have done. I think maybe someone might like some of the streetscape or mundane photos i have taken over the years only to "see what xyz " looked like but other than that no one really cares.
Are you OK with that ? and IF SO.. why is everyone so hung up on "archival negatives and archival prints" ?
Just a piece of idle curiosity on my part but it might mean something is wrong with my set-up on Photrio. You have included a quote in your #16 from KSN45MF so I assume that his post occurs earlier than #16 in this thread but I cannot find it anywhere and I am at a loss to know why unless a moderator has for some reason removed it or my Photrio just hasn't recorded it?Would you give us your definition of "Multiculturalism" .?

Any thoughts on the technical aspect of this?

I have no illusions about my photography. When I die, Bestbeloved will leave my digital images on the computer hard drive until that computer also dies. They will then cease to exist. My negatives will last until Bestbeloved dies - and perhaps as long as my daughter lives. They will also then die.Sorry if I sound like a jerk but does anyone really care, I mean really care?

Yes....."Thumbs Up" for the both of you.!I'm doing what I do because that's what I do. There is only today not yesterday or tomorrow
Why be in angst about things you can't control
I'm in the process of printing a few books so in 100 years someone can come across one in a dusty old bookstore and say :"look what I found"
And maybe leave an impression on them
As Peter I care , its the only important thing in my photo life , I want future generations to see work I have done, personally and for others.I'm doing what I do because that's what I do. There is only today not yesterday or tomorrow

thats goodI don’t care if you sound like a jerk.
If you are talking about the "general public", you are correct. Who WILL care about your or my work? Probably no one. But you are leaving out your (and my) most important audience, our families. They will care and who gives a damn about the rest. It is for any family who comes after me that I want my work to last, Just like I enjoy looking at pictures of my predecessors of the past hundred or so years. However, I do beg your pardon if you are not talking about black and white. You shouldn't care about color, it "self-destructs".........Regards!Sorry if I sound like a jerk but does anyone really care, I mean really care?

Too damn bad everyone is now hyper-sensitive about photography and being in a photo they don't generate because aspects of everyday life tend to get lost or overshadowed by staged or artfully selected shots that ignore daily life, but I guess that should be another thread...
This brings up an interesting fact about how we regard photography as a social force in 2019: we take more photos of ourselves than ever before in our history (we even had to invent a term to describe the act), and more than ever, we tend to violently object to being photographed without our consent! How curious.
Perhaps I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying we've only recently developed a term to describe taking a portrait of oneself? This brings up an interesting fact about how we regard photography as a social force in 2019: we take more photos of ourselves than ever before in our history (we even had to invent a term to describe the act), and more than ever, we tend to violently object to being photographed without our consent! Are the set of people who make selfies part of the same set of people who object to being photographed? I'm not sure. Even so, those who make selfies have control over when, where and how the photo is made and who to share it with. Photography by a third party is out of their control. I think that's where the objection is likely to be.
Oh, I definitely understand the reason for people's objection to being photographed by a third party. I am not explaining the phenomenon, I am simply observing the fact that our species is acting in new (or perhaps exaggerated) ways in response to the ubiquitous nature of digital photos and the ways in which this material is/can be shared. Its entirely possible that there is not a lot of overlap between the set of Those Who Take Selfies Ad Nauseum and Those Who Object To Being Photographed By Others.
Remember, Wikipedia is written by people who cannot keep its content consistent with its sources; you'll see what I mean a few graphs down. (Don't get me wrong, I really like Wikipedia, but we have to work with it's, umm, characteristics.)It is my impression that the term "selfie" is a product of Internet culture of the past ten years or less, and I regard that as "recent". In fact, Wikipedia states:
"By 2013, the word "selfie" had become commonplace enough to be monitored for inclusion in the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary. In November 2013, the word "selfie" was announced as being the "word of the year" by the Oxford English Dictionary, which gave the word itself an Australian origin."
Yes. I withdrew my own posts when I discovered it had attracted trolls. It's not important.Just a piece of idle curiosity on my part but it might mean something is wrong with my set-up on Photrio.
