I first caught sight of Song Chao's work in a recent National Geographic. They were obviously 4x5 works, very stark and immediately eye-catching.
Some have said they are reminiscent of Avedon's work, but I think they're a work all their own.
He has an interesting life story, also. I guess I'm an inveterate China watcher, but it's just strong, strong work.
