Some questions about the Tomioka Auto Tominon 55mm f1.2 (m42)

I just found one of these Tomioka Auto Tominon 55mm f/1.2 lenses yesterday for next to nothing. It's the Kogaku version with the m42 mount. Apparently its a valuable collectors lens because it was the fastest m42 ever made and there's only around 300 of them, but I just want to use it with my Canon 5D Mk III.

The rear element on the Tomioka is so large, it bumps up against the rim of the M42 to EOS adapter, so I can't focus past 7ft/3m. My Pentax and Mamiya f/1.4's don't have this problem. So I guess the solution is to purchase a non-flange EOS adapter for it? Or is there another way to get this on my DSLR without damaging anything?

Has anyone here used one of these Tomioka's 55mm f/1.2's? Just curious about the image quality and if they live up to the hype. I found this 'fan' website and a few Flickr sets, but not much else:

Of course not...I already have several M42 bodies + a M42 to K-Mount adapter for my LX's. I just want to use this Tomioka with my DSLR.

I thought about that but I don't have a k-mount to EOS adapter. I just bought a flange-less EOS adapter off Ebay....if that doesn't work, I guess I'll get a k-mount adapter and give that a try.

FYI, the 55mm, 57mm, 58mm f1.2 lenses -- from Tomioka/Yashica, Minolta, Konica, etc. -- are all very soft wide open. BUT, FYI, when combined with a 2X tele-converter, they make great 110-115mm f2.4 portrait lenses.

If you have M42 bodies shoot a roll of color and decide for yourself, what I may like may be your cup of tea. In terms of your question about fitting a DSLR you might want to post in the digital capture threads.
