SOLOR Darkroom foot switch

Made for the SOLOR Enlarger by the famous photographic equipment maker Burke and James.

There are 4 120V sockets. Two are on all the time and the other two are controlled by the footswitch. When peddle is down two if the sockets become powered. I used it for an inspection light in the darkroom. I could turn on the inspection light without having to hunt for a pull chain. Very convenient to use.

Rated to handle 1500 watts so it is a heavy duty electric switch made of cast metal. It weighs 4 pounds so it wonÂ’t move around or be damaged if you stand on it.

Obviously thee are other uses including as an enlarger lamp switch so you can easily dodge and burn without having to reset the timer. It must work this is the technique that Ansel Adams used.

All the outlets in your darkroom should use it on a Ground Fault Interrupting device to protect you from being zapped.

Similar switch is almost always found in professional B&W printing darkrooms. I am surprised it hasn't sold.

Rather than having to dry your hands and find a light switch while printing you can just step on the light switch. Typically bolted or duct taped it to the floor.

The typical confiration is to use a hanging 5 1/2 inch round safelight housing or similar light fixture with an opaque 5 1/2 inc h diameter snout with a 75 watt light bulb. The illuninated area is big enough to see the print but minimize illuminating the whole darkroom.

Very useful item.
