A little bit ago my spot meter fell out of my pocket while I was shooting. While it looks fine on the outside, after the drop pressing the switch would cause the meter to jump to the highest possible value, with only extremely dark scenes reading as anything but EV 18 (both on low and high sensitivity) as if it had a concussion and was light sensitive from it. I took the top off to check if there was some obvious sign (dislodged wires or something causing a short, etc) and lightly moved two wires which were crossing (but obviously not meant to be connected) in case their insulation had rubbed away and they were causing a short or some other issue, which caused the behavior to change, but not back to a usable state. The same thing happens, but now the meter will always read between 3 and 4, regardless of scene or whether using low or high sensitivity. I have a sneaking suspicion that it would end up costing more than the value of the meter to repair and it would be no loss to try to repair it myself since the worst case scenario is that I am unable to and need to replace it for the same cost as having it repaired professionally. Does anyone have any experience tinkering with analog spot (or general light) meters with insight on what to check? Or, and this is a long shot, the schematic for the Soligor Spot Meter (the original)?
