I am offering for sale a well-used Rolleiflex E2 camera. The only accessory which will be supplied is a lens cap
The camera is being sold as parts-or-repair camera. There are numerous problems with it, which I have listed below. While you can put a roll of film in it, and run it through, I do not consider it to be in usable condition for photography.
I have used Photoshop on the attached images, but only for rotational and contrast and density adjustment purposes; there was no "cleaning up" of any dents or scratches. For images 0979, 0981, 0982, 0983 and 0985, I have "dodged" the portions of the images which were in deep shadow.
The camera's condition is, and the defects that I know of, are as follows:
1) It has a 75mm Xenotar f/3.5 lens, which seems to be clean and free of fungus. There are a few specks visible in image 0993. The shutter and flash sync work fine, at least for electronic flash; I don't have any bulbs to test it with.
2) The film advance is smooth and works properly, save for the minor defect noted at point 3, below.
3) When you load the film, it will stop before you reach frame #1. All you have to do is to release the shutter and it will wind to roll frame #1; this issue doesn't cause any fogging or double exposure on the first or any of the subsequent frames.
4) On my last film test, when focusing close up, the left side of the image is soft; the rest of the image is sharp. I have looked at the lens, and to my untrained eye, I cannot see anything wrong with it. The image focused at about 35 feet shows an overall soft image.
5) The shutter speed selector changes the speeds, but does not "click" into place; I think there is a part missing. When I made a test of all of the apertures from f/4 to f/22, I set the shutter speed and aperture dial to be linked, and the resulting test on black and white film shows consistency from frame to frame.
6) The camera leather is worn, and the camera body is scuffed and scratched. The missing leather on the face of the camera will be supplied with the camera.
7) The focusing mirror seems to be okay, with a few scratches.
8) The focusing screen is missing.
9) The self timer works.
10) There are no light leaks.
I am asking US$350, plus the actual cost of shipping from Ottawa, Ontario. Payment by PayPal only. By all means ask questions!
