Stunning example of the Leica R8. By stunning I mean this baby has seen some serious ish.
Patina on top of patina. This would make a Leica collector weep. Perfect.
What is wrong with it - and it is a biggie- it can only stop a lens down to F4. No matter what you set the lens at after F4, F4 is all you'll get. 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4 - all perfect. 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22, 32, 64, 128, f256 - all f4.
Not sure why it does this, perhaps the fix is simple, but it does. I tried it with a bunch of lenses - ROM and non ROM - no difference. DOF preview lever also no-go.
BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER!! (well at least in my mind). Because this baby shoots up to 1/8000 sec, so open it up, go for bokeh, go for shallow DOF, use those high shutter speeds!
Ok, so bottom line this is the cheapest way, by far, to shoot 1/8000 sec with Leica glass and have full metering modes (spot, matrix, avg). How cheap? $200 for 1/8000 sec of Leica goodness.. pp and shipping on me.
