Sorry for being completely dumb, but are these designed only to fit Leica M series cameras? Also, what are these used for?

There's one mounted on an F3 in OPs image...shutter button threading is fairly uniform so it should fit anything that will take a standard cable release. It makes pushing the shutter button smoother so you're supposed to be able to handhold more steadily. I typically purchase them because they're more comfortable than stock buttons.

Yeah, they should work on everything with a standard shutter button thread. They look good on the newer Fuji X models too. As for their use, Powasky has answered that nicely. Sold a few but lots more. I had these made as I was getting a great response when i posted a few I had left over from a while ago, on "the other" forum. but when I got more produced for the community there and posted them again, I was told I wasn't allowed to sell them so am now sitting on a bunch!!

Are they slightly convex at the top or flat?
