Hrmm. Well, while I don't want to make a false statement....
I have a Wollensak Velostigmat, with the adjustable SF ring. While i haven't fully tested it yet, I can say that I firmly believe I can stop down to F/22, set the ring to MAX, and I'd still have soft focus. While the background bokeh may not be desirable, Im sure it would still be soft...no ?
(This is sad...I REALLY need to make some time to get this lens in the field...)

if the soft focus ring on your velo is like the soft focus ring on my vitax -
it is more of a de-focus ring. (at least on the vitax ) if you look at the rear group, it moves back when you turn the ring, so you can achieve a softness even when stopped down ..

Rob, I have the 180mm Fujinon sf lens which comes with the two discs (red & yellow). It will give a "soft focus" effect, but it does not exhibit the "swirly bokeh" of the older lenses. Once you stop down to the point that the aperture is inside the inner circle of the disc, all effects are gone and you essentially have a "normal" lens. This is not to say that images are not pleasing with the lens, but that the type of soft focus is entirely different with this lens. Best, tim

P.S. Will try to dig out an image to post, but need to get to work now.

I am desperately looking for soft focus discs for my fuji fujinon 180 sf. if i could have a simple copy with the scanner of both (red & yellow) that would be fantastic.
the exact height & diameter would also be helpful. I could then build the soft focus discs myself. in the hope of an answer best regards ralph
