Does anyone actually know what the Sodium Sulfate does to the film? It is used in TD-201 after bath, and I suspect it does something to control swelling. I would like to know, as it may be useful in some other developers I play with.

The dark room cookbook recommends it for normal B&W developers that are to be used at elevated temperatures, because it reduces emulsion swell.
