In Dick Arentz's book he has a recipe for the 15% solution:

distilled water at 100F: 55ml
palladium chloride: 5 grams
sodium chloride: 3.5 grams

Sandy King's article on Kallitypes specifies a 20% solution to make up a palladium toner. Anyone know the correct recipe?

I don't know what's correct, but I do know that the recipe you quote will be about 8.5% - a long way from 20% and even 15%.

The formula in Dick Arentz' book is a standard solution for palladium printing. It is based on the use of Palladium (II) Chloride.

The 20% solution I mention is the 20% Palladium Solution #3 of Bostick and Sullivan. or Sodium Chloropalladite.

Either will work for toning kallitype prints or for making palladium prints.

Don't know what happened there - must be a short in the calculation part of my brain. I tried it three times and got the same answer - and was wrong all the time.

For toning Kallitype's, Sandy King's article specifies using the toner one shot. For example 20ml for a 5 x7 print. So one shot means "per print" not "per print session?"

That is correct. One shot means "per print," not per print session. With the gold, palladium and platinum formulas I give in the article at unblinkingeye.com you will need a minumum of about 20ml for a 5X7 print, 50ml for an 8X10, and around 100ml for a 7X17. Use the solution once, and discard. Toning to completion with this formula can take up to ten minutes, even though visually toning may appear to be complete at around five minutes.

I'll have to mix my own since I bought palladium chloride from Artcraft. For the sodium chloride I see table salt has other additives, even the non-iodized salts. Will that be OK? I also saw small bags of salt at the grocery store and the ingredient is only sodium chloride - it is in small chunk form and I was wondering if that would be a better pick than the table salt and is it pure enough? I think those bags are intended for ice melting. I would just have to grind that to powder form.

I ended up using pickleing salt.
