Okay, I have run out of Potassium Carbonate, can I substitute Sod Carbonate for my Pyrocat HD formula.
I believe that Pot Carbonate was only used because of it's ability to go in a very saturated solution? I have been using 1KG of this to 1 litre of water for the stock solution B.
Could one use 500gm of Sodium Carbonate in 1 Litre, then double the amount of concentrate used, ie, 20ml to a litre, rather than 10ml?
Thanks for your help.
PS, I have tons of Sodium Carbonate and I am having a lot of trouble getting Potassium Carbonate here in Australia.

I seem to remember posts about substituting the sodium for the potassium. You might search this section of the forum. I can't be of more help than that, sorry.

It can be done but I do not remember the concentartion required. Try rumaging around on the Pyrocat homepage. http://www.pyrocat-hd.com/

Sodium Hydroxide can also be used as solution B but it give increased grain and is recomended for contact printing only.

sod. carbonate 200g/L and used at 5X your normal pot. carbonate/ sod. hydroxide amount.

ps i remember someone mentioned Sod. carbonate's saturation level in a litre of water being the reason why you mix it up at 200g/L and use it at 5X. İ've switched from carbonate to sod. hydroxide and don't find there to be a grain increase over the carbonate ( not perceivable anyway ), even with tri-x.

What percentage is your solution B with sod. hydroxide and mixing proportion for the working solution, please?

İgor,

i use sodium hydroxide at 100g/L and i use it at 1:1:200 (2.5ml:2.5ml:500ml).
