He had it list in the classifieds under ebay. The claim was the meter was fully functional and accurate. Well when I got it the battery check worked but forget about doing any meter readings. Anyway water under the bridge, he refuses to answer emails blah blah blah.

What I want to know is has anyone got any experience fixing these Photomic meters? Maybe it's just a bad solder connection, who knows. I was thinking of getting the non-metering head but wow are they expensive! What gives with that?

Sorry to read that you're having troubles with your new kit.

I've no worked on these meters before, however, it might help you to google YouTube for videos on the repair (trouble shooting) of these, and see if they give you any insights that can help you determine if you can save it or no.

That meter is pretty straight forward, I did have a F with the Ftn (?) meter and it ran true with all sorts of bumps and use and never a hickup.

Hopefully, the camera will still bring you joy, even with Sunny 16, and give years of service never the less.

Open a case with eBay. They almost always find in favor of the buyer. If the camera wasn't as advertised, that's just wrong, and no reason you should suffer. If you want a working camera, you should get a working camera. This is why eBay has buyer protection.

I had a case recently -- seller advertised a lens as having a Minolta mount. It wasn't. Even though he had a no-returns policy, that doesn't apply if the item is listed/advertised incorrectly. Seller tried everything -- partial refund, whining about paying return shipping, insulting me, ghosting me. I opened a case with eBay, waited a week and then got my $$ back and he got his lens shipped back (at his expense). I'm a nice enough guy and this was a cheap lens (<$25) -- but why should I pay anything for a lens I don't need, because the seller can't be bothered to research what he has? No, what's right is right.

No power at all will probably be a simple poor connection somewhere, usually at the battery terminal.

The problem with photo mic meters is that the same part fails in most of them, so no spare replacement parts . Personally, I found the photomic meter gives an awkward balance to the camera. I quickly jettisoned the meter for a plain meterless finder. That was in 1959. Never looked back. I can slip my F with pancake lens in my jacket pocket.

Photomic finders can be problematic, especially on the F. I've read that all the finders with CdS cells eventually diminish and/or stop responding to light, though my F2 meter seems to be fine, but I don't use it. I would open a case with eBay to see about getting, at least, a partial refund, then use a handheld meter or sunny 16 to determine exposure. Brett Weston never used a meter and I'd say he did OK.

They're in the dimension where all the missing socks go. I hate when that happens.

Thanks everyone. I have watched the Youtube video and will attempt a fix. My old hands aren't as steady as they use to be so it could be exciting lol. Maybe a stiff swig of scotch just before starting might help.

Sirius the OP is from God's country and this can only be Yorkshire, England so Hollywood Boulevard is a long way away

When I lived in an apartment house, I used to do the laundry in the common laundry room for the building. When socks got lost, I figured someone was stealing them, although I couldn't figure out why they would take only the left one or the right. Then I moved into my own home and did my wash in my own washer and dryer. I really started to worry when the socks continued to disappear. I would ask my wife. But she complained the same thing was happening with her socks.
